Teen Program: Book Hedgehogs

Teen Program

I think the idea of re-purposing a book into something else is a fun craft. The only problem is many of the crafts involve X-acto knives and other things that don’t really translate well to a teen library program.

Imagine my delight when I came across these cuties when searching for program idea!

They are super easy to make. Shorewood Library Teens has a PDF with instructions here. I did a test run and it worked out really well.

Once again, I had no teens. I’m really thinking Saturdays are a bad day for programs (even though that’s what teens said would work for them…) I’m not abandoning hope. I wasn’t out any money for this program so I stuck everything back in my drawer and I’ll try it again in the future.

I’m switching my teen program to Thursday afternoons and see how that works out. If I can get a group of teens, I’ll dig this out again. If not, I might try it in a tween program.

This might be a fun thing to bring to outreach? You really just need some books, googly eyes, and the instructions…

  1. The book hedgehog looks cute! Sorry the teens didn’t show up. They really don’t know what they’re missing. Are you the first librarian to schedule activities at this library? Maybe they aren’t aware yet that cool stuff happens on Saturdays?

    • I don’t think they’ve had many teen activities at this branch. Apparently getting teens to come to library programs is a universal problem. Oh well, I’m trying the programs on a weekday now so we’ll see how that goes.
